Grading System

Students’ final grades are recorded permanently at Ajou University by the following letter grade system.(Course)

  • Recovery or additional exams can take place only when the student is severely ill or in another serious condition, and only by getting approval from the instructors.

Credit Recognition

  • Taking undergraduate courses and credit recognition
    • Range of recognition: Up to 6 credits for Master’s program
    • Requires: Discussion with the Chairman of each Department in advance. Submission of application form for admission of alternative subject
    • Time of submission: During the Course Registration Period for each semester
    • Procedure: Same as the procedure of registering for courses of the GSIS
  • Taking courses from other departments in the GSIS
    • Courses that are included in the curriculum of each major would be counted as credits for graduation.

Course Registration

  • Students must take at least 3 subjects (9 credits) every semester, with a maximum of 5 subjects in order to be eligible to get the scholarship in next semester. However, Internship or Leadership & Ethics class is not included in the maximum of 15 credits. Student who would like to apply over 15 credits a semester can ask a help to GSIS Office to add the credits.
  • Students are required to confirm the credits earned and the courses to take before registering for courses.
  • Students should be fully aware of the curriculum of each department. (The Curriculum of each department will be uploaded on the website every semester)
  • To acquire scholarship, students must have registered at least 9 credits excluding Research credits and Beginning Korean Language 1 in the semester evaluated for scholarship.
  • New Students who start from 2021 Spring Semester are required to register Beginning Korean Language 1. (In the case you have a TOPIK score the certificate showing you have taken Korean Language Class in the institute, you can take "Beginning Korean Language 2" or register major elective subject (3 credits) instead of it after the Korean level test and discussing with Korean teacher.)
  • Students in the IB and IT should take "Quantitative Analysis for Business and Economy (Statistics)" in the 1st or 2nd semester.
  • Students who would like to graduate with writing a thesis MUST take "Qualitative Research Design and Methods" or "Quantitative Research Design Methods" in the 1st or 2nd semester. If students who couldn't take "Quanti/Qualitative Research Design and Methods" but would like to write a thesis, please consult it with GSIS office.
  • Internship opportunity can be given to students on a limited basis. Students who complete the internship will be given credits for Development Practice Internship (Business Internship 1). Internship opportunity will be issued during the semester.
  • Development Practice Internship (Business Internship 1) and NGO Internship 1 will be counted as Major Electives for your graduation.
  • Business Internship 2 and NGO Internship 2 will be counted as "Others", so it will not be counted as Major Electives for your graduation.
  • Leadership and Ethics Workshop 1 bear 1 credit and Leadership and Ethics Workshop 2 bears 2 credits.
  • Students in the 4th semester (3rd semester for KOICA students) should CONTACT GSIS office before the course registration change period (the first week of the first month) and check that all the courses will be completed for your graduation requirements. Please note that it is students' responsibility to final check for the graduation requirements and manage your course registration.
  • If you cannot graduate within 4 semesters, you should pay extra tuition fee as below in the 5th semester.
    • Not more than 3 credits : 1/2 of Full Tuition (Without Scholarship)
    • More than 3 credits : Full Tuition (Without Scholarship)
  • Even if you take both Beginning Korean Language 1(3 credits) and Beginning Korean Language 2 (3 credits), only 3 credits will be counted as graduation requirement, however, the grading and the course name will be appeared in your transcript.
  • Course Recognition from other department within GSIS Students are allowed to register course from another department (Up to 3 credits) will be counted as Major Electives for your graduation, however the rest of the credits which is over 3 credits won't be counted as major electives.
  • You can see many of the cases that "Major Required course" offered every other semester (once a year). Therefore, please make the course registration plan for the graduation within 4 semesters when you do your course registration for the third semester referring the Course Information which is offered by GSIS every semester.

Assessment & Course Evaluation

Transcript

  • Each student will receive one “Transcript” listing the courses taken, grade point, and the number of credits for each course. Additional transcripts may be requested individually at the Ajou Comprehensive Support Center.
  • Transcripts will not be issued while a financial obligation to Ajou University remains outstanding.
  • How to get the transcript: Students can receive a transcript automatically at the Ajou Comprehensive Support Center located on the 1st floor of New Student Union building. It costs 1,000 won for an English version and 500 won for a Korean version. If the machine is not available, you can ask the staff of the ASC to issue your transcript manually.

Changing Major

Changing major is allowed before the second or the third semester begins and is allowed only one time during students' study period at the Ajou GSIS. In order to obtain permission, students should talk to the department chairs of both departments and obtain their consent for changing the department before the semester starts. Any financial obligations arising due to the change of department are the responsibility of the individual student.
