Tongyeong, South Korea — February 2026 — In an effort to enhance global cultural engagement and experiential learning, Tongyeong City recently hosted an immersive field tour for international graduate students from Ajou University’s Graduate School. The two-day event, held on February 5 and 6, offered students a rich combination of historical education, cultural immersion, and natural exploration.

Organized in collaboration with local government and community stakeholders, the field trip welcomed 21 international students from five countries — including Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Mexico, and Guyana — all of whom are enrolled in international graduate programs at Ajou University Graduate School of International Studies.

During the tour, participants hiked Mireuksan Mountain to appreciate Tongyeong’s striking coastal landscapes and visited key historical sites such as the Undersea Tunnel and Hansando Island’s Jaeseung Dang, which are closely connected to the legacy of Admiral Yi Sun-shin, one of Korea’s most revered historical figures.

A highlight of the experience was a night visit to “DPIRANG”, a newly reopened multimedia content park showcasing innovative night-time cultural entertainment. Students noted that the multimedia displays added a fresh dimension to their appreciation of Korea’s cultural heritage.

One participating student shared, “Standing in the places where history was made and experiencing the natural beauty of Tongyeong firsthand was unforgettable. The combination of culture, nature, and modern media content made this trip truly meaningful.”

Tongyeong City officials say they plan to continue similar initiatives aimed at both domestic and foreign participants, designed to strengthen international understanding and promote regional tourism.
