[GSIS] Notice on Visa and Work permit issues

Good afternoon!

This is the GSIS office.

We would like to inform you about a few things regarding illegal work and visa extensions.

Firstly, please be aware that any work without a work permit is illegal and the immigration office is very strict about this. Once the immigration office finds out that you are working illegally, you may either be asked to leave Korea immediately or be charged a fine. Recently, the immigration office asked us to make sure students don’t work without a permit and shared some cases of students who were charged a fine and who were asked to leave Korea. It looks like they will continue to be strict on working without a permit.

Secondly, please note that the immigration office has notified us that it plans to strictly conduct visa extension screenings for students who intentionally don’t meet the graduation requirements and attend extra semesters. It looks like visa extensions probably won’t be easy for additional semesters. Therefore, please remain informed about your graduation requirements.

Lastly, please find the attached document on illegal employment and illegals stays. Please be aware of the attached contents and be mindful not to breach any of the provisions pertaining to illegal employment or illegal stays.

Thank you.
